Day 48: Anchorage, Alaska

Anchorage, Alaska, United States
Not too much to say today, but we decided to stay put at Shipp Creek Campground for another night so we had a relaxing morning - I'm trying to finish my book, at our picnic table with my coffee this am - what a luxury! Linda was fixing her everything smoothie so I soaked up some sun until she came out with breakfast. Then we unhooked since we had our hair appt at some downtown location and had to drive the RV there. We allowed plenty of time because you spend a lot of time circling your intended location until you can find parking for the RV! Altho our hairdresser, Melissa, did have raspberry hair, she gave us both a very nice, neutral color! We had poor Sara parked in the RV with the generator and air conditioner going since it was a sunny lot and 70's temperature today. We had told Melissa we wanted to either bike or hike some of the city trails so she had given me directions to Westchester Lagoon, which was a challenging drive since many streets are one way and we could see where we wanted to park, but couldn't get there! Must have driven 20 miles to reach the parking area we could have walked to in 10 mins! And a small lot, which I had to turn around in - ugh! We opted to follow the Coastal Trail that runs along Cook's Inlet - the body of water outside Anchorage. The trail goes for 35 miles along the waterline of Anchorage with lakes, parks, and beautiful homes/gardens along the way. We walked for 3 hours to give Sara the exercise, but there were lots of bikes using the trail as well. You also have a view of the mud flats since the tides were out, but we stayed away from the edges as the warning signs advised! It really was a beautiful walk on a beautiful sunny day. We finished about 6:45 pm and decided to take in the AurorA Borealis movie at the Anchorage Performing Arts Center - it shows every hour and is a compilation of photography of the Northern Lights. Apparently, you only see the lights on certain occasions, but it has to be dark first, and being as we are not seeing any darkness now, guess we won't see the lights live! We got home at 9:20 pm and quickly stripped the beds to take advantage of the laundry facilities, then fixed a supper of last night's salad bar leftovers! Tomorrow we are checking out here and moving to another campground, so will have to be up and out by 11am!!!
