Day 81: Jasper, AB, Canada

Jasper, Alberta, Canada
Have a few housekeeping issues to take care of today - the fresh water tank is flat empty today - that means no flushes, and the sewer tanks are giving a few hints (smelly) that they need emptied, so that is a priority - we hear tell of dump sites and water fill areas at 2 locations in Jasper but had not found them last evening (got better directions this morning). But we decide to stop first at Lake Annette for breakfast (generator use in campground was limited to 8-9:30 am so I couldn't even make my cup of coffee and Linda needed a smoothie!). We saw another elk driving in, then had breakfast at lakeside, then walked a little bit around the lake - would have been prettier on the sandy beaches if sun were shining, but it's gray and chilly so not so inviting. We next drive in to find the dump stations - work accomplished so we next walked around Jasper. Love the town and needed to talk to Visitor Center to plot our next camping sites for Lake Louise, where we hear it is even more crowded. We also discovered the local laundromat and ran back to bring a few loads from the RV - we were the only tourists walking through town with our laundry bags, but when we got there, there were hundreds of people doing laundry. A great coffee shop on site, and pay showers if you want to wash yourself as well - for a price!! We were calling campgrounds in Lake Louise while at laundromat, getting a little worried as all 5 campgrounds were filled for the next 4 days. There are several smaller campgrounds that are first come, first serve, but you would have to be there early to claim a site, and we have heard this drive down the Icefields Parkway (Jasper to Lake Louise) is spectacular, and we don't want to have to try to look for campsites instead of enjoying the views. I found one campsite that actually has hookups, but is 30 miles off the main road - she called me back at 7pm to say she had a cancellation and could fit us in for 2 nights! Yeah, but I have no idea where this place is! Now to check in to Whistler Campground here in Jasper. We are arriving late (6pm) but had our reservations, yet still the lines to get into campground look like Disney World. Never had lunch, so dinner fast - once again, we missed generator hours, so will heat some dinner on the gas stove as that is all that works when generator is off.
