Day 84: somewhere on Hwy 11, AB, Canada

Nordegg, Alberta, Canada
After researching the options around this area, we decided to sleep in and then start the day with a short hike to the local Lake Abraham. I was thrilled to just be able to make coffee this morning since we have electric power now, so I was a happy camper. It would be at least an hour to drive to other sites we want to see from here, or we could have biked in this area, but we didn't want to travel today and the wind is ferocious, so biking would be hellish one direction! The short hike turned out to be a good challenge and beautiful site as well. Lake Abraham, named after an Indian guide who settled this area, is a man-made lake and dam, providing power to the area. But we saw no signs of power or dam or civilization at all - just beautiful, calm, cold water in a windy canyon surrounded by the mountains. A few people there, but very quiet so Sara could have a good run. We walked a quarter of the lake, which was hard to do due to the rocky beach, climbed some craggy rocks to have a view, then pulled ourselves up a sandy cliff to take the return hike back by way of the forested coastline. So we were tired out, and had a steep uphill to the campground, so I'd say we got our exercise. Then we started our laundry workout (carrying two large bags of laundry down the long hill to the laundromat and back about 4 times). Sara also got her bath, much to her dismay, as it is chilly in the wind. And Linda's working on her shower and baking brownies, so all is good! Tomorrow we need to get out early as we have no campsite reserved and will try to see Lake Louise on the trip south and just keep driving til we find something! This David Thompson Resort has turned out to be a bit far from our main route, but has some perks - hookups, laundry, swimming pools (if we could imagine getting wet!), restaurant, and gas! And, cute little bear statues that had Sara on high alert! But, it's been a good rest stop! Time to dump tonight and then we'll be ready to go!
