Day 89: Glendive, MT to Jamestown, N Dakota

Jamestown, North Dakota, United States
The neighbors were all out this morning, chatting about last night's storm - I thought it sounded wonderful, but Sara was in full panic mode so nobody could rest! We had told the neighbors to pound on our door if the flood waters came, so they came knocking this morning to let us know it was safe to come out :). We were on the road at 10:30, after stopping at the Visitor Center to get directions on how to get out of town! We had taken a twisted route into the the town and needed to go out the opposite side to meet up with the interstate - finally getting on I 94, a real 4 lane! It was a short hour drive to Theodore Roosevelt National Park and the town of Medora. Stopped in town to get Dad's birthday card and find a post office - cute town! Then out to the State Park. It was more badlands scenery, buttes and plateaus, and wildlife - prairie dogs and bison, and the Little Missouri River. We had lunch at a high rock outcropping, but Sara wasn't allowed out of the RV, so we didn't stay long - she was staring out the window at us! We took a short hike at Wind Canyon, which was gorgeous. A longer hike would have been nice, but time was short, and Sara was not happy to stay behind. So back on the road at 4pm, and pushing on toward Fargo. We started chasing sunflower fields during this section of the drive - we would see one, so beautiful, but we weren't near an exit, so couldn't get photos. Finally, we caught a field near an exit, but had to circle a mile around a corn field trying to get in close enough to get photos - wish I lived next to a field of sunflowers!! Apparently, it's a big crop out here, sold for oil and seed. But after a short detour, and then a little adventure down a more interesting road, we relocated the interstate, and drove til near dark. We had called ahead to Jamestown Campground and lined up a campsite since it was now 9:15 pm (we lost another hour today coming into Central Time Zone) but we're delighted to find this campsite seems to be beautiful (we'll see more in the daylight) but came with all the amenities - cable TV, showers, wifi, power, water, sewer, huge pet running trail around the camp, late check out time, and ice cream bars as you check in!! We rushed out to run Sara, but discovered one big problem - terrible mosquitoes - so bad that just going in and out allowed them to swarm in the RV and we were eaten up while trying to get hookups done. I must have killed 40 mosquitoes once we got inside - had to kill every one before I could rest! Then dinner and bed early tonight - can't wait for a shower tomorrow morn!! Also excited to be getting phone and Internet as we near the big cities!!
