Abbeville, Alabama, United States
As I said, we had opted to try staying on Lake Eufala at White Oak Campground, run by the Corps of Engineers. There were no reservations available, but they said as of Friday, they might have 6 open sites (out of 100 sites!). So we did our best to get on the road early Saturday morning, after packing up the house, loading Lynn's car, repacking the RV, getting bikes loaded, and turning in our house key by 10:30 am! I hate leaving Cape San Blas every year, ranks with eating liver, but we said goodbye til next year. Lynn headed back to Atlanta, but Linda and I drove straight to Eufala, except a stop for gas ($1.93/gallon) and lunch in Dothan. Made it to the campground by 2:30 and held our breath as we asked if they had any available spots! The helpful campground host offered us 4 different sites, most are waterfront, so we were thrilled. The lake is on the border of Alabama/Georgia and is fed by the Chattahoochee River. Our site is on the White Oak Creek, but looks out at the main lake. We had a back in site, but opted to pull in forward so we could enjoy the lake view through our big front window. Leaves are changing, air is cool like fall, but there are still some hardy souls in the water. Lots of fishermen, pleasure boats, sandy beaches, and even a fenced dog park! We have enjoyed walking the perimeter of the park and sitting at the shore reading/writing. Just heard that Bud went into hospital last night, so feeling it's time to go home now. Sara, my loyal traveling dog, was also diagnosed with a new urethral mass, so we will be returning to UGA Veterinary School for another evaluation, hoping this is not the bad news I fear. Ken and Sharon have successfully completed their church mission with Syrian refugees in Lebanon so safe travels to them! Back to Stone Mtn Park for a lakefront site - lakefront sites are discounted during off season, so looking forward to a site with a great view!
