St. Augustine

St. Augustine, Florida, United States
Again a dreary, chilly morning but clouds wore off by 10 am and we made plans to tour St Augustine. I found Sara a doggie daycare, planning to get her a "spa treatment" of bath and nails - the great deal was that first day at Pet Paradise is complimentary, so we dropped her off before heading to the Trolley parking, I hated unhooking in order to drive the RV to town, but the free shuttle into town would not have gone by Pet Paradise. The parking lot at stop #2 of Olde Town Trolley was perfect for the RV and we were able to scope out the town and hear some history before disembarking for the jail tour and lunch. Of course, I loved the jail tour, but still don't want to stay overnight! We then walked into town, down St George St, enjoying the shops and distinct Spanish architecture, beautiful churches, and old world charm. We were headed for a top-rated restaurant when hunger took over, right in front of the gelato/pizzeria Pizza Time - recently voted #2 in the country for pizza; they also had thick crust, square pizza which I love, so in we go! Pizza and a Stella were quite fine, and more walking before circling back to get the gelato (coconut/dark Belgian chocolate = almond joy) - very fine!!! We left town about 4:30 and drove out to pick up Sara, where the facilities and staff were great, but they forgot to bathe her!! She did get her nails done, and they offered me another free day of daycare for the inconvenience, but that didn't help me - so she did get a free day and free nail trim, so I can't complain. Back to Compass RV Park, hooked up again, walked Sara on the trails and around a nice pond, then started on the countdown for the rocket launch. There was supposed to be launch of rocket/satellite Atlas V tonight at 7:46pm - so we set up our chairs at the south end of the RV park, soon joined by another nice couple from TN. They used to live in FL and said they could see and feel rocket launches in Orlando, so we were really excited to see a rocket - but it's now 3 hours later, and it's still on delay. So disappointing!! But St Augustine has been a great town to wander! Could have spent much longer!

Love the stories. So sorry you missed the rocket launch - that would have been an experience. And sorry Sara missed her bath (although I'm sure she felt differently...).
