Can't believe how wonderful the day is - woke to sun, beach breezes, cool air yet temp is 80 degrees this am. My only stress is that I still don't have a reservation for tomorrow night - left about 8 messages at campgrounds, with no answers. So I started calling again this morn, and finally got an answer at Point of View Campground in Key Largo. That was the good news, bad news is they want $145/nt for the site!!! But in my panic (don't know if I can count on Walmart this trip:), I said "I'll take it". They should wash and clean the RV, dump my tanks, and cook my dinner for that price. Hope we even get there in time to enjoy it!! But the pressure is off, so a leisurely breakfast at our picnic site, then walked out to explore the beaches. They told me that markers 25-59 are dog beach areas, otherwise no dogs on the beach. So I wondered how far we would have to walk to get to marker 25 - actually only about 5 blocks and we came down to a virtual doggie playground! Dogs who fetch (working dogs) were off leash at the water's edge, chasing balls or buoys endlessly; the rest of the dogs sat on their beach towels and made fun of the working dogs or were greeters to the "walking by dogs" - Sara! We met another rescue Weim named Gator from NJ, and a beautiful Vizsla who was quite friendly. Sara tried to keep her feet dry, but we kept pulling her into the surf. The water is blue green, great waves (lots of surfers), so we walked a couple miles down the beach. As we walk into our "community" we see pickle ball, shuffleboard, pétanque?, and a BBQ going on at the community hall! We walked back via some shops and restaurants, thinking about dinner - so nice to be within walking distance. Becky had some friends who came by for a visit, had retired from Atlanta to Delray Beach, and entertained us with stories of their move south! They apparently bought their house in Delray a year before moving here, so rented it the first year. A single woman, said to be a paralegal and her small dog were renting - as it turned out, many suspicious clues later, she was actually running an escort business out of the house!! Fortunately, it was a "high-class business" so house was immaculate, but the neighbors had complained of all the "traffic" at house, and were SO glad to welcome their NEW neighbors :). Just another renter horror story! After friends departed, Becky and I took a short trip up to the Thai restaurant near our "retirement home". Good departing dinner as Becky prepares to catch her flight home tomorrow.
