Ochopee to Naples to Bonita Springs, FL

Bonita Springs, Florida, United States
OK, now I've never been to this area of Florida, but I must admit my whole plan is being determined by where I can find a reservation, especially less than $100 per nt! Wanted to see the Marcos Island area, but found no parking near the public beaches for an RV (in fact, the campground host told me later that it is illegal to park an RV on Marcos Island) - guess I was lucky because I did stop at a pretty city park to let Sara run in the dog park. It is a pristine, wealthy area but no stops until I get to KOA Campground in south Naples. That's a beautiful area also, but I spent yesterday trying to figure out my reservations - Lynn had to change her arrival date, and I thought I had a lead on Ft Desoto Park, but turns out all the sites they showed available were tent sites, so I'm back to a KOA reservation ($97/nt). This Naples KOA is nicely laid out, great pool, cheap laundry ($1.75 washer/.50cents dryer), but wifi not working, and no hot water in the showers - only discovered after you get all ready to hop in, trying to rid yourself of bug sprays and sunscreen! You know it's bad when they provide you a bottle of gnat repellent at check in, saying the biting gnats come at sunset and rise (I noticed sunset meant 4pm!). I did laundry, would have loved a bike ride, but ran out of time. Up early today, to get back to reservations and think I may have nailed down the next 6 days, except Sat night. The one I got in Bonita Springs is an "overfill" space, but has water/electric for $26/nt!!! - it's probably in an alligator infested swamp for that price!! So I'm off to Bonita Springs this am - Walmart stop on the way, Sara still complaining about being left in the RV! But Naples Old Town is stunning and it's gorgeous driving on Hwy 41 - looks like a botanical garden. I took a detour to find the Bonita Springs Dog Beach on an island south of Fort Myers beach. Unfortunately, I found parking too early, and was so worried I would not find some closer, so ended up walking over a mile to the beach - poor Sara had her tongue hanging out due to the heat!! But it was a great experience when we found it - a long beach (not deep) but able to be off leash and shallow far out into the bay. There were lots of boats pulled up in the water and Dolphins swimming close to us. Sara doesn't really like water but she walked in today - probably so hot she had to!! We stayed about an hour, got another lead on an RV park in the area, but thought I would check out my $26 deal first. Hiked back to the RV and drove another 8 miles to Bonita Lake RV Resort. Drove through cute town of Bonita Springs on Old Hwy 41, and arrived at resort about 4pm. Technically, I'm parked on a corner of the designated dog park, perfect for me - was easy to back in, has water/electric, and can get many digital TV stations! I sat out with Sara, and we must have had at least 20 people (and their dogs) come by and introduce themselves to me - I've never met a more friendly group of people anywhere!! The park has 2 lakes, one with a fishing pier, beautiful facilities, heated pool, bingo tonight, hot water in the showers! I don't know what the regular rate is, but this is a deal!! They also have a "Harley" bike group, wanted to know if I have "a bike" :). I got 2 nights here because they are full after that, but will finally have time to relax.
