Homestead to Miami to Ochopee, FL

Bonita Springs, Florida, United States
On the road toward Miami by 8:15 am - another beautiful day! GPS sends us up the FL turnpike again, and I do need to figure out where those charges are paid - it says "toll-by-plate", billing you by mail, but I'm not sure what address they will have for me since it will probably go to my home and not sure the renters are good about forwarding that mail, so must follow up there! All went well until we were within a stone's throw of the airport - we could see it, but kept taking the wrong split in the road, had to u-turn in the RV at one point, the kitchen cabinet came open with dishes flying out (Corelle did not break!), but we made it to the airport about 15 mins early, then parked in a bus stop since I couldn't get under the low ceilings in usual drop off areas. Karen jumped ship saying she will join me again later, and Sara and I pulled out alone! Fortunately, I had no trouble getting out of town, driving the Tamiami Trail directly west from Miami towards Naples. I had found a site at Big Cypress National Park, on the northern boundary of the Everglades. This road is the swampy area with lots of air boat tours I've seen on TV. Nothing much in Big Cypress except a heap of alligators at the Visitor Center and a nice specimen of a taxidermied Florida panther - very cute actually! The campground was very nice with all sites facing the pond - I liked the check in warning to make sure to use a flashlight at night to watch the ground because that's when the "gators move". I decided to be sure to be inside before dark just to be sure! My neighbor campers were from Wisconsin, so we walked laps around the lake for our exercise - nice to have some company now that Karen is gone! I have a few days until Lynn plans to meet up with me, and I am still spending hours trying to get reservations - and Internet connections are very poor out in the swamps!! Go figure! And, no TV either!!
