Estero/Ft Myers to St Petersburg, FL

Bay Pines, Florida, United States
Well, what a disastrous game last night - now I'm sorry I did get TV so that I had to watch the heartbreak of the Falcons! And then to listen to Fort Myers analysis of the game, never showing the Falcons after the game, saying that the Patriots "made a quick comeback" and other irritating summaries!!! I felt like I was in a foreign country listening to the rehash! Must turn off the news and take another nature hike this morning before we leave. This is such a peaceful park with the river running through, lots of kayakers out early today. Once again, though, those alligator warning signs! Next it was back to RV and plot the trip to St Petersburg - decided on the direct route up I75, then heading west across the Sunshine Skyway bridge. That thought is a little daunting since I'm not crazy about heights or being in the RV, up high, and with wind being more likely. It turns out I need not have worried, no wind today, and I was able to pay cash at the toll booth (I think the Florida DOT is still looking for me to pay the turnpike fines - they supposedly bill by license plate, and I'm not sure I'll ever see a bill since I don't have a "home"!). I drove through some "mechanical" neighborhoods to get into the RV park, but once here, it is beautiful! The Pinellas Rail Trail Bike path runs past the gate, there is a beautiful pool, hot tub, mini golf, kayak launch, pristine showers and laundry, and best of all, my campsite facing out on Long Bayou. My view from the RV is through the Mangrove trees, to a huge body of water with islands, Dolphins, and birds. When I checked in, I asked if they had any cancellations so I could stay at least one more night - incredulously, they said my site was available for three more nights. I decided to look at the site first, called Lynn to see how long she could stay, and when I called back to the desk, they told me the site was already taken!!! They are able to give me one more night at a site 4 spaces away, so will have to move the RV on Thursday, but it will be worth it to stay another day. The neighbors are very welcoming and friendly so now I can relax, put out the awning, and settle down for awhile! Lynn to arrive late tonight so will have to go out and flag her into this site in the dark - might not see tomorrow's sunrise!
