Galveston, TX to Jamaica Beach, TX

Galveston, Texas, United States
Last night was a rocking night in the RV - rocked by the wind, blowing rain, and waves splashing from the bayou! And quite a shock to feel how cold it was this morn as we stepped outside - 50 degrees but it felt much colder with the strong wind. We got a slow start since we dreaded getting out to unhook the RV and walk Sara, but spent more time working on future plans. We have reservations now through the next week, which should take us to Corpus Christi and then to Canyon Lake north of San Antonio (our only day we found an available campsite at a Texas State Park). We then got on the road for our big trip (11 miles!) south to Jamaica Beach, still on Galveston Island, but closer to the Gulf! We passed long stretches of undeveloped beach on the way south, and then would pass small clusters of housing. One of these clusters is Jamaica Beach with a few shops that constitute "town". Our Jamaica Beach RV Park is just past "town" and at first look was disappointing - a parking lot just off the beach highway, but as we explored, it does have many pluses. The newly paved pads with new hookup units, great miniature golf course, second pool is adding a Lazy River, 2 dog parks, the office has Hunt Brother Pizza and Wings which they will deliver to your RV, and a short walk across the road to either walk or drive on the beach made this RV Park very attractive. With my Good Sam discount, we are paying $41/night - I guess not so bad for Spring Break week, especially compared to my days in Florida. After settling in, making lunch and exploring the area, we headed out to the beach. There was just a slight brightness to the sky now, so not quite as cold. We walked 1.5 hours on the beach, seeing lots of ocean waste, but enjoying the fresh air and long expanses of beach. After all the fresh air, we splurged with some real junk - pizza and wings, beer and Dr Pepper! Tomorrow we move down the coast to Rockport Beach, and hoping weather will be improving as we go south.
