Just another glorious day for the beach - woke to clear skies, but very windy and a little hazy. We had a leisurely breakfast at the campground, then headed out at 11:30 to go to the beaches for the last day. The trip turns northwest tomorrow, so I wanted to soak up the last rays of beach sunshine. I would consider driving on south to South Padre Island, but I hear that's where the larger concentration of Spring Breakers are. We did not see many people at the beach here, but probably more families than any other group. Apparently Spring Break happens over 2 weeks, last week and next week, across the whole state. So we enjoyed another day of relaxation at the Malaquite beaches. We had sandwiches on the beach, then "rested our eyes" while lying on the sand (Sara too!), then took our walk down the north end of the beach - saw the Malaquite campground where I had hoped to stay, but was afraid to take a chance at not having a reservation (they are only first come, first serve and I was arriving mid-week so was afraid all 40 spots might be taken by people staying the whole week). They have no hookups, but do have showers/bathrooms, and half the spots are on the far side of the beach dunes, close to the water; the other half don't have grills but a cement parking pad and back up to dunes closer to main road. It looked like it would have been nice if not at such a busy season. We walked along the beach and even found a long deserted section for Sara to run free. Today we saw a lot of blue jellyfish on the beach, so stepped carefully, and did not have an urge to get more than my feet wet. We left the beaches about 5 and got back to the campground to begin our prep for Canyon Lake State Park - drained and refilled fresh water tank, dumped sewer tanks, washed salt and sand off the RV, and cleaned house inside by vacuuming and general disinfecting. Sara got a bath, and then us, and a couple loads of laundry, too! Trying to dump all the sand before we leave town!
