San Antonio to Kerrville, TX

Kerrville, Texas, United States
We were very sad to leave Travelers RV Park in San Antonio. As I thanked the office host who had helped me plan yesterday's activities, she told me several other places I would have loved - apparently the bike trail north of town is surrounded by more beautiful landscaping, and they had a group from the RV Park taking their bikes via trucks to cycle that section this morning. Next trip!! I also checked my tire pressures before the trip and was surprised to find that I can not reach the valve stems on left rear tires - don't know what they did after rotating them, they told me there were extensions, but I can't reach either one. I filled my propane tank at TW, and got a referral for a tire store nearby. We found Discount Tire on Military Road, and they offer a free drive up service of tire pressure check and fill. The attendant was confused by my situation, but called in the supervisor, who said these 2 tires do not have the extenders, must have been the tires moved from the front, but he was able to check pressure (only 1 tire was about 4 lbs low, others were still at 80 lbs) and fill by removing the rim. He said they don't sell valve extenders, could probably order them online - I'll be calling cousin Don to discuss this further. For now, will have to have someone check my tires regularly. On the road about 11:30 with very little traffic thankfully. We stopped in the little town of Bourne (pronounced "Bernie") just about 20 miles north of San Antonio, the first of the Hill Country German towns we wanted to explore. Again, it was dreary and chilly this morning, but weather.com said it would be full sun at 1pm, and they were about 10 minutes off, but by 1:10 we had full sun and temps reached 86 degrees by late afternoon. So we parked at the end of town and took a walking history tour through town - a very quaint, old Texas town - you could just imagine the horses pulling up to the hitching posts! This town also has a great walking trail along Cibolo Creek, lined with fun restaurants, breweries, and a winery not to mention lots of ducks and turtles. We walked the town, then went to The Dodging Duck Brewhouse and Pub for my German fix - a small inhouse brewed beer, bratwurst, sauerkraut, German potato salad, and a hot pretzel. And, Sara was welcomed onto their deck and provided a bowl of water. The menu had many selections I would have tried, but the grilled bratwurst was first class! Great lunch with a view of the creek. We headed back to the RV by way of the walking trail, seeing lots of baby ducks and even baby turtles swimming in the water. We had hoped to get to some local caverns, but decided to get checked in to the Kerrville Shriner's RV Park instead. This campground was recommended by another camper, they told us it was "on the Guadalupe River" but when we arrived, we found there are only about 20 sites that are near the water (but all those had full hookups), and the water/electric sites were across the highway and tucked into the woods. There are a lot of sites over here, plenty of other campers, and we have already spotted deer near our campsite, but not the riverfront site we imagined. We walked down to the river for sunset tonight, enjoyed the riverside trail, and then about a 1/2 mile back to our campsite. We still haven't seen the town of Kerrville, but will go exploring tomorrow.
