San Antonio, Texas, United States
Just a quick update today - had a GREAT night's sleep after our very short night before! But was awakened at 6am for a report from Sara's vet. Of course it got my blood pumping when I hear the phone at that hour, thinking it was bad news about Sara. Thank goodness she only had good news about her condition, but no idea why she wanted to share that at 6am since I had called and visited 3 times yesterday. Hearing that she had tolerated the "food challenge" and had a poop was good progress. They said her surgery had gone as well as can be, since they were able to rotate the stomach back into position, tack it in place, and saw no further organ damage. She lives on to scare me again I'm sure! Once we were up (at 10 am), we did the banking business that required a notary re our old cabin sale, another grocery stop (trying to get ready to be on my own and not wanting to leave Sara alone in the RV), and then to pick Sara up from the Emergency Clinic (Blue Pearl on Broadway). Her bills totaled nearly $2700, which I hear is a good price for this emergency surgery!!! I keep telling her she needs to find a job! She looked perky when she walked, but couldn't keep her eyes open when she sat down. So we got back to the RV, set her up in her bed outside, and we ate our lunch. Sara is on a severe food/water restriction (5 TBSP bland diet every 4 hours, 1/2 cup water every 1-2 hrs) and pain med every 8 hours (Tramadol). She still wants to be with us, and we needed to go up to pool area to do laundry and hang at the pool. Since she wasn't allowed into pool area, we set her bed outside fence in the shade of the office, and let her sleep it off. Then back to the RV site to grill our Mahi filet and salmon patties, purchased at Texas grocery HEB. Will have plenty left over for myself this week. Tomorrow I take Linda to Austin airport for her flight home and head West! A little scary since Linda has been such a good co-pilot - now I get to do it all on my own until Kennie joins me on April 5. But I have lots of plans to make, and Sara needs to be quiet and heal. Sounds like we dodged the weather last night since there were thunderstorm warnings, and Aunt Marilyn called to tell me bad weather was around me - but we only had clouds this morning and it was sunny by 1pm. Fortunately, good weather predicted for the near future! Sorry to leave this San Antonio KOA campground, though - it ranks as one of best I've seen due to trails, quiet, trees, and pool. We had the basic water/electric site, but has been perfect for our needs and relaxation!
