Driving Around the Island

Anse Volbert, Praslin Island
Today it was raining cats and dogs and so we cancelled our scuba diving excursion. We opted for a car rental after lunch just so that we get out and see some other areas on the island. The first stop we did was the jetty but it was closed till 2:15 and so off we went. We headed for the southern part of the island to visit the Valle de Mai Forest. It is a Unesco heritage site, famous for the coco de mer and several types of Palm trees. We walked throughout the giant sized plants and saw many coco-d-mer. It was 20 euros per person to enter but it was nothing like we had ever seen before.

The next stop was in the northern end of the Island to see Anse Lazio . Took a few pictures and I went in for a quick dip while Francois checked my stuff. After the first wave flipped me head over heals, I checked my face to see if my glasses were still on. It felt like a bus hit me and actually was winded. So much for the quick dip, I had enough! We went back to the jetty following a wonderful coast line so that we can reserve our place on the boat ride to La Digue on Saturday.

This morning (May 23) we returned to Anse Lazio at sunrise to get some different pictures, this is suppose to be one of the nicest beaches in the world. The lighting was not what Francois was hoping for but we had the beach to ourselves.
