Jekyll Island

Savannah, Georgia, United States
Day 2 - 290 miles. Yesterday we finally made it to the Atlanta airport, some of the interstate actually goes under some of the runways. And today we arrived in Dublin, about 90 minutes out of Macon!!

We decided to take back roads from there and head to Jekyll Island before going to Savannah. In 1888 a bunch of wealthy families including the Morgans, the Vanderbilts, the Rockefellers and the Goodyears, bought the island, formed a hunting and recreational club, and built a "clubhouse" and summer "cottages". The clubhouse and some of the cottages are now a luxury hotel.

Then we drove to the north end of the island to see Driftwood Beach. This definitely counts as an unusual place. The whole beach is full of dead trees bleached white. Very ghostly and beautiful, like a tree graveyard. I read this is due to the north end of the island being slowly eroded away and deposited on the south end.

After that we drove to Savannah and decided to relax in our hotel before venturing out to explore Savannah tomorrow.

Could you tour any of the cottages? If not, who lives in them now?
