Relaxin' at the Beach

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, United States
To Armando's Wednesday golf group - he told you he was going to play golf today. Well, he did, but not exactly what you probably thought.

He beat me, but only by 4 strokes. We're having a rematch tomorrow. And these pictures surely count for my daily tacky oddity. What is tackier and kitzchier than a mini golf course? This one was Atlanticus but looked more like Jurrasic Park to me. We'll see if we can find an even tackier one for tomorrow. See the photo of the 19th hole - if you could make a hole in one you could play here free forever. We won't be playing free here forever.

From there we went to the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk - a big collection of shops and restaurants and entertainment, the ferris wheel like the London Eye, and a zip line and a couple of other thrill ride things.

Then to Broadway on the Beach, which looked like Disney's version of a beach resort. Basically a shopping center with lots of shopping center stores like the Gap, Victoria's Secret, Rack Room Shoes, restaurants like Hard Rock and Senor Frog, and several theaters. Seems like about 20 years ago Myrtle Beach was becoming an east coast Branson with a bunch of theaters anchored by various musical acts. I remember Larry Gatlin and his brothers had a theater here. Apparently the celebrities have gone. Now there's a theater with a pirate show, one with a wild west show, one with impersonators of Elvis, Dolly Parton, Michael Jackson and more, and one that has big acts like the Oak Ridge Boys come once in a while, in between variety shows with singers and dancers and magicians.

Ate some lunch and then vegged on our balcony for the afternoon. A lazy day at the beach.
