Back in Tennessee

Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States
Before leaving Asheville this morning we stopped by the Folk Art Center of the Southern Highland Craft Guild located off the Blue Ridge Parkway. This building was filled with amazing artwork - pottery, woodworking, ceramic, glass, quilts, weaving, clothing, all of it world class. To belong to this guild you must be juried in so the talent is incredible. Of course they did not allow photography which almost killed me though I understand why. I kept looking for a spot where I could sneak a photo or two but there were plenty of people all over the place making sure I didn't. So the indoor photos are ones I found on the internet.

In the gift shop, they had the "Art Quilts Inspired by the National Parks" book - see top shelf center. Of course I had to show the gift shop clerk my quilt. Page 45.

As we left Asheville it started to rain. A good day to travel since we couldn't do much else. We went through the Smokies to the south of the national park, avoiding the interstates. The road was mostly 4 lane with one 25 mile stretch that was only one lane each way but it was beautiful - the road on one side, a whitewater river in the middle and a train track on the other side. Not a lot of traffic, no one was in a hurry and it was actually a pleasant drive.

We would have had a lot more scenery though if it wasn't for the rain and the low clouds.

And the mountains aren't very good for satelitte radio!

More cloudy scenery

The first (and only) See Rock City sign. Remember when they were on every barn?

Back home in Tennessee. Right after crossing the line we had lunch in Ducktown, TN.

Then as we approached Chattanooga, blue sky!!! And it's supposed to be nice through the weekend.

I was keeping up with your trip until I had a situation at my apt/condo...water. I will catch up in a few days then get back to you. Sounds like the Plan B trip was great and I'm so happy for you ❤

We have been to the Folk Art Center and I wanted to buy too much! We have been trying to purge, so I actually came out with nothing. Hope to see you soon, if you have time.
