Day 1 Tourist - Madison

Madison, Wisconsin, United States
We drove downtown and I got lost. The UW campus is so huge and there are about twice as many buildings as there used to be, road construction, new roads.... Armando was probably getting a little impatient with our back-tracking. But we did drive through the campus and up to the capitol. I have been in several capitol buildings including the US capitol and I think this is the most beautiful I've ever seen. Armando was here on Friday with my brother, and said they had gone up to the outside observation deck. I had never ever been there so we had to go and I took lots of photos.

Here are some photos from the observation deck. Madison's downtown is on a skinny isthmus between two lakes so the views were spectacular. If you zoom in on the map at the top of the page, you will see how Madison is more lakes than city!

Lake Monona is in the background.

This is the clock that was used in the capitol....it was the master clock. Every minute a puff of air was sent through tubes to all 167 other clocks to make them move ahead one minute. So they only had to set this one clock and all the others would be in synch.

And here are some more photos of the beautiful interior of the capitol.

This afternoon we went to the zoo with my niece Catherine and her kids. Armando and William went fishing - William caught 5 fish and Armando caught 3 - and Charlotte, Catherine and I went to see the animals. We all got caught in the rain at the end.
