Exploring Miraflores

Miraflores, Lima, Peru
First we had a hearty breakfast - avocado and pepino melon for Armando, mango and star friut for me, saltanas, bread with butter and cheese and coffee. In our cozy little apartment. While we ate we could look out the window and see paragliders sailing around the sky. We're only about 5 blocks from the cliffs.

Today was a beautiful day, so we decided to walk around the neighborhood streets of Miraflores. Here are some examples of the houses and apartment buildings in the area.

We made our way to the malecon, which is loosely translated as the boardwalk - the promenade that goes along the sea. In this case it goes along the top of the cliffs that overlook the sea.

There is a famous shopping center called Larcomar, built into the side of the cliff. It's about 4 or 5 levels and is actually quite large. But look at this picture:

Do you see a shopping center? Do you see acres of parking lots? Do you see anything other than a beautiful park? Because all the parking is below the park, several levels of it - those towers are probably air shafts for the parking garage - and the shopping center is below the park level, so from the street all you see is beautiful park. Wouldn't it be nice if our shopping centers in the US were so nice! So here are some photos of the shopping center.

And I love public art - here are a couple of examples in Miraflores:

We ended the day at the home of Armando's friend Demitri and his wife Sonia for good conversation, good food and friendship. And pisco.
