We said our goodbyes to the Garbe family and started on the road for Oregon. It is a straight 312 mile shot up Interstate 5 from Roseville to Gold Hill (near Grants Pass, OR). The trip was pretty uneventful, as we passed through the dry upper Central Valley of California until we reached the Lake Shasta area.  

The drive became really interesting with the highway intertwined with this massive lake . The deep blue waters of the lake are contrasted against the red clay and volcanic ash of the banks. It is especially pronounced because the lake is low during these summer months. After passing through Shasta Valley, we climbed over the grade and dropped down into Scotts Valley before going cross the border to Oregon.

Shortly after crossing the border, we passed through Ashland and Medford, Oregon, before coming to our night's destination, Valley of the Rogue River State Park. I had reserved two days at the park, as the following day was Labor Day and I for one was going to rest from my labors!

We pulled into the park at 5:30 and found our "pull through" camp site. While Sharon and I set up the trailer with electric, water and sewer connections, the grandkids ran down to the Rogue River to look around. BBQ salmon, brussel sprouts and salad under the canopy of the evergreen trees ~ nothing better.  

So ended day 3 of our adventure.
