We set out at 9 a.m. from the Valley of the Rogue River RV Campground under cloudy skies. Sharon let me know that the “low oil” light came on. Since we were not carrying any extra oil, we decided to drive on and stop at the next town. Shortly after passing Canyonville, a light rain started to fall. The truck had “developed” a one-wiper blade (driver’s side, thank the Lord!) syndrome after we left Huntington Beach. So, I asked my granddaughter call to cities ahead to see if we could get into a Dodge dealer to have it fixed. Then, Sharon called from her car again to advise me that her car had “thrown a windshield wiper blade” from the driver’s
side
. However, the “low oil” light had gone out. So I decided to get off I-5 and search for a service station to have the missing wiper blade replaced. After driving about 10 miles on a country road, I pulled over, feeling that we should turn around and go back. Sharon suggested googling to see if there was a service station or auto parts store nearby. Lo and behold, ½ a mile ahead was a huge Napa Auto Parts store. She was able to buy the new blade and the clerk installed it for her. Within a mile or two, there was an on-ramp to the I-5.
A Dodge dealer in Cottage Grove said they could fix my wiper problem, so we headed up the I-5 for that town. We weren't in there 10 minutes and we were driving out with both windshield wipers working (now that it had stopped raining). Back on I-5 headed north again, Sharon advised me that the "low oil" light was on again. We pulled into this little wide spot that had a truck stop and a garage across the road
. I added some oil that we had picked up on one of the previous stops. Before getting on the road, we decided to have lunch in the trailer. Sharon wanted a cup of coffee to go with lunch (and to help with the afternoon drowsiness), so she drove over to the truck stop restaurant/store and bought a cup of coffee. She happened to notice that she had a flat tire and brought the car back to the trailer and told me about it. I hopped into the car and drove it across the road to the repair shop. The manager told me that if it couldn't be fixed, they did not have any tire that would fit the car. The mechanic took the tire off the rim and found that it could be fixed.....seems a nail had gone into the tire - HEAD first!
From here on out, the rest of our drive to our daughter's house seemed fairly tame! We arrived at Chris & Erin's house about 7:30 p.m. - just in time to get the trailer parked in their driveway and sit down to a great meal that they had fixed for us. AND the grandkids were so glad to see their parents!
