Eastbourne. This is our second visit to this small seaside town. Plus we have managed to get a room at the same hotel we stayed at - the Bonnington Cavendish Hotel. You have to see this place to believe it. It's not super luxurious or anything. But it does evoke all the charm of travel in days gone by. Old fashioned service, rooms decorated in the style of the 1930's, a dining room decked out with upholstered chairs and tables with white table cloths on them, There's even a sitting room and library for relaxation. We loved this hotel the first time we were here, and it's the same now.

Unfortunately the bad weather has followed us down from Dover . High winds and rain don't make for pleasant sightseeing. So photo ops haven't been too prevalent. Still, Eastbourne is a pleasant place for a couple of days. The pubs serve good food and cold beer. There are plenty of fish n chip shops to satisfy the hunger pains. And even the wild weather provides its own spectacle all along the beach front.

A drive along the coast to the east of Eastbourne provided some spectacular views of wind swept hills and crumbling chalk cliffs at Birling Gap. It seems that more of the cliffs have been claimed by the sea since the last time we were here.

Tomorrow we're heading across to Portsmouth, home to the British navy.
