A bit of a hiccup leaving Cairns. The plane had a bird strike and we had to wait for an engineer to sign off on it before we could leave. 2 hours it took. Luckily we have a 7 hour layover in Singapore, so any delays at the Cairns end means a shorter wait in Singapore. 
 The flight was rather arduous, made worse because of the lack of any onboard entertainment system. You could access the onboard wifi network to access their entertainment packages - if you had a wifi enabled device, and you were aware of the need for a good pair of earphones (none were supplied). We had the first, but not the second. Tried to use it without phones, but it was useless. So, how many games of solitaire can you play in 7 hours? More than two hundred, that's how many. Suffice to say, a good flight was NOT had. All was well once we reached Singapore - found out we were eligible to use the Kris Flyers lounge facilities. At least our 5 hours will be spent in comfort. 
On a more sober note, a further check of the news indicates French borders are open, but with some added security measures, and they are still advising caution when in Paris. 

 So, Paris here we come.
