Leaving Passau we had a number of choices for a destination, the aim being to get us within a 2 hour drive to Frankfurt to pick up Sam. Nuremberg, Wurzburg, Heidelberg, Augsberg, the choices are many. After considering distance, direction and choices for accommodation we decided on Bamberg, about 2 1/2 hours west of Passau.
 Nothing too unique to justify the choice, except maybe the UNESCO listing of Bamberg for its architectural heritage . and it really is a beautiful town. If we had the time we would most certainly have spent more time there. The hotel we stayed in was in a converted convent, the Arkadenhotel-im-kloster. Very nice it was too, and for a good price - normally $220 down to $70, one very good reason for visiting Bamberg.
Found a really good beer house where we had the opportunity to sample some regional food (beef soup, schnitzel,  roast pork joint, dumplings, and sauerkraut of course), all washed down with the local house beer (about a litre).
That's about all for Bamberg. If we had the time we would most certainly have spent more time here. Apologies for lack of photos, camera card was full. 
 Tomorrow we head off for Frankfurt for a couple of days. Then a bit more traveling around for a week or so before we meet Jake in Berlin for Xmas.
