Back to the big smoke

Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany
Thursday - Made it into Frankfurt with about an hour to spare before Sam arrived. Frankfurt airport seems to be one of the better organised airports - signs for parking and terminal entry are everywhere. Flight seems to be on time even a bit early, so we didn't have long to wait.
Picked up Sam, off we go to our apartment for the next couple of days . A bit of a disappointment when we arrived. The apartment is slap bang in the middle of a construction site - refer to photos. Seems that the owners are developing the site further (to maximise their profits no doubt). Would have been nice to know this when we booked, a discount could have been given for the inconvenience (this will be going into the review).
Sam crashed out for the rest of the day so Julie & I went for a bit of a drive into the city (too far out this time to just walk in). Not liking Frankfurt already. We are reminded of Genoa - crowded, chaotic traffic, unattractive buildings. It takes us almost 2 hours to drive through the city and back to the apartment, painful.
Friday - cold and overcast. Construction workers started about 6.30 this morning, so no chance of a lie in. Decided we'd give Frankfurt another chance and venture into the city centre and have a look around. Sam wanted to see the Frankfurt stock exchange so that gave us a point to navigate to. Even found a parking spot, very convenient.
Frankfurt has proved to be a different place once you can relax a bit and have a good look around. There is lots of construction going on here (haven't seen so many cranes on the skyline as I have here). Frankfurt was extensively damaged during WW2, so little of the medieval architecture remains. The bulk of the buildings are modern, made of glass and steel. Occasionally there will be a lone older style building nestled amongst the new.
Not too sure about Frankfurt. We're glad we visited here, not too sure if it warrants another visit.
