This morning berthed at the side of the Rhine close to Cologne Cathedral. Had a look round it and then just wandered about the streets. Off to lunch now. While we are at lunch the boat is having to move to the other bank of the river. From there we are getting a city tour. Not much view through our porthole at our morning berth. Lol.

Went on the city tour . Quite interesting. Didn't bother with more sightseeing or shopping. George fancied a beer so we went to the Irish pub so he could treat himself to a Guinness for his birthday. Real surprise at dinner. Music started playing and all the waiters brought in a beautiful birthday cake for George with sparks flying everywhere. We hadn't expected it so had no camera. Fortunately our friends took a picture. They are going to transfer it to us asap so we can post it. George ran and got the camera so we do have pictures of the cake after it was sliced. When George went for the camera we discovered they'd also decorated our cabin. We were both gobsmacked.

Just got back to our cabin and noticed George had also got a birthday card and a bottle of bubbly. Wow. He was flabbergasted. We've already had quite a few glasses of wine, whiskies and cocktails tonight so I think we'll put it in the fridge for tomorrow.
