Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand
We woke up this morning to find it was dull and wet outside but after breakfast we headed out anyway to join up with a walking tour of the city. We were suitably equipped with cagoules and umbrellas as were the other 15 hardy souls who had braved the weather.

The tour was good, we have done similar walks in other cities and enjoyed them all . Christchurch is still a city in transition with a lot of empty spaces where buildings have had to be demolished and a lot of building work ongoing with roads and pavements closed. 185 people died in the big earthquake, 115 of these were in one 6 storey building which pancaked. The site of the building is empty apart from a small sign until they decide what to do with it. Cruise ships used to dck in Lyttleton the other side of the city but the seabed rose 6 metres and the quaysides were destroyed, they now dock in Akora harbour but passengers have to be tendered out, some still come to Christchurch but some don't bother.

The rain stopped late morning just before the walk finished, we did some window shopping then had a souvlaki from a street bar. We walked back towards the hotel, Fiona decided to tour the art gallery but I was allowed to bunk off thankfully.

We sorted out our bags so that we had some clean clothes in our hand luggage to change into at Hong Kong, Fiona worked out it was going to be 36 hours door to door.

We had booked a table at Spice Paragon, we had tried the previous night but it was full until 21.00 which is too late for us to eat, no problem today. The meal was good, sort of Thai fusion, we shared a starter and a main meal which is quite normal here, we also shared a bottle of SB.
