Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
We left Manchester about an hour late in the end, it had started to snow very lightly and they had to de-ice the plane for safety reasons. Our seats were OK, in an exit aisle so we had plenty of leg room but the downside was we were next to the galley so it was busy now and then. Watched Three Billboards, fantastic film. Fiona started watching it at the same time as me but she finished it whilst I had about 45 minutes to go. Turned out she had somehow pressed the wrong button and skipped the middle of the film, then she said "have you seen the bit where ....." which obviously I hadn't so that spoilt a plot line, anyway she went back and watched it all again. The A380 is a big plane, we were in row 80 on the lower deck and there were about a dozen rows behind us. The downside of this is a big plane has lots of smelly people on it so we were both glad to get off!
At Dubai before you can get a connecting flight you have to go through security and it was only then that Fiona realised she had left her Kindle on the plane! So we went to the first information desk and relayed the story, he asked us to return after 30 minutes, we did and no luck. We then went and told the check in person at our gate and she tried as well to get through to Lost and Found, nothing.
We went through the initial boarding from the main concourse to a holding area with me hiding from Fiona that I had upgraded us and there I download the Kindle app to her iPhone and got some books from my Kindle account and some free classics onto her iPhone.
They then called for business class boarding and I waited as long as I could and then said "let's go", she still hadn't twigged until we were going down the stairs and she saw the boarding cards. Once on board we relayed the lost Kindle story again to the senior steward, after 20 minutes or so he came and got Fiona and they literally ran down the aisle and 5 minutes later she was back with her Kindle. So full marks to Emirates for getting that back to her. It must happen quite a few times so they probably have a process in place and if she hadn't got it back now we would have got it back on our return journey.
The seats are not as roomy as on Cathay and I would say there is slightly less privacy but no complaints. Free wifi so I am typing this just after take off. About 5 hours to Bangkok from now so I am going to get the seat flat and grab some sleep, Fiona is already asleep after taking one of the sea sickness tablets. First I need to finish my mojito.
