Gothenburg, Swedish Lakeland, Sweden
We had trouble leaving Copperhill Lodge. The bus was 15 min late as it could not get up the road and was waiting for a grit truck. It had rained during the night and the road was too icy.

Our train will leave in 45min . We have now ordered taxis.
After an anxious wait both taxis and the bus arrived and we made the station with four minutes to spare. In fact the train left 10 minutes late not only because of us, there were many others trying to board.

We are on a swish train travelling south to Stockholm where we change for the train to Gothenburg. Since we are in 1st Class we have free coffee/tea and have received a breakfast/lunch pack. Small yogurt, small packet of muesli, small apple juice approx.75ml, slice of pumpernickel bread, sliced hard boiled egg, some sliced cheese and a small tomato finally a small tube of pink stuff which we were told was caviar and small portion of dark chocolate. While we had breakfast at 7:00am we are on the train till 2:00pm so it will do as lunch.
The train has free wifi and reaches speeds of 201 km/hr I know because there is a display in our carriage. Country Rail has some way to go.

Still patchy snow but I can see blue sky ahead .

Been on the train three and half hours and still patchy snow, more blue sky.

Forty-five minutes out of Stockholm, virtually snow free.

Arrived into Stockholm Central on time which gave us just over an hour to wait for train to Gothenburg. It is a very impressive station with a big concourse and large shopping arcade underneath. Went outside for some city views ie church steeples.

We are now crossing from the east to west coast of Sweden. Train not posh but still fast and free wifi, not to mention a powerpoint to charge ones device. (As you may have gathered I am writing most of this at the time using my iPhone.)

Arrived Gothenburg about 7:30pm to a hotel above the station

Next day a 8:45am start for a #11 tram to the end of the line, about 25min through the city and suburbs to a ferry terminal.
Very overcast but not actually raining, possibly about 6C.
We caught a ferry which called into a number of islands in an area called Sobra Skargarben (without the accents on the letters).

Changed ferries to a trimaran for some more islands and a lunch stop.
Lunch was a simple single course buffet with salad. The locals were most surprised when 26 tourists suddenly filled the place . To get there we walked along the waterfront past many boats taken out the water and resting on angled stands, these held the boat about 20cm above the ground. The place must get pretty busy in the summer.

Some very light rain which wasn't a problem. Leith remembered to bring the hotel umbrella which wasn't really necessary.

Back to the mainland and a tram the Gothenburg Train Museum.
Large museum with many trams and a number of buses.
Then a two hour trip around Gothenburg in a vintage tram. We had a volunteer driver and conductor who enjoyed themselves, we had a number of photo stops and the tour extended to two and half hours.

Our last day it was fine for about a three hour trip to Copenhagen airport. We cross on the Oresund bridge which connects Sweden with Denmark. It is approx 16km long comprising a tunnel and bridge.

We had a good flight back, We thought we would catch up with the TV series 'The Bridge' which is very good. We managed to see 7 out of the 10? episodes, so I have ordered the DVD set.

Another great trip thank you Owen & Takako.
I hope you have enjoyed my ramblings. Till next time.
