A Post Script to President John Tyler

Bloomington, Illinois, United States
First, full disclosure. I did not find this out myself. A good friend and golfing buddy by the name of Denny Perzo sent me this information and I could NOT believe it. I knew nothing about it. I had to look it up, and I'll be darned if it's not true. It is! John Tyler, probably known primarily by non-historians as the last part of the campaign slogan, "Tippecanoe and Tyler Too," was the 10th President of the United States. I saw his gravesite in Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond, VA, earlier this year along with 5th President James Monroe and Confederate President, Jefferson Davis. You may (or may not) recall that Tyler became President upon the death of President William Henry Harrison, some 30 days after Harrison took office.

Here are the facts of the case, and they are undisputed (A Few Good Men).

John Tyler was born in 1790. He became the 10th President of the United States in 1841. Tyler fathered 15 children (more than any other President). After serving one term Tyler fathered (among others) Lyon Gardiner Tyler in 1853 at the ripe old age of 63. (Now, follow me on this one), Lyon Gardiner Tyler fathered Lyon Gardiner Tyler, Jr. in 1924 (at the age of 71) and then four years later (1928), at the age of 75 fathered Harrison Ruffin Tyler. AND BOTH MEN ARE ALIVE TODAY!!!!

That means that three generations of the Tyler family are spread out over 200 years!!! Are you kidding me???? Somehow this just boggles my mind. Not one, but two grandsons of a man who was President 20 years before Abraham Lincoln are alive today.

Sometimes history amazes me!!!! And that's why I love it!!!

Merry Christmas my friends and family!!!!

I thought you were going to say "and he fathered Steven Tyler, lead singer for Arrowsmith!" Age is about right. Ha ha. Interesting stuff Dave.
