Get Me Out Of Here!

Port Moresby, National Capital District, Papua New Guinea
After a comfortable three hour trip on the Air Niugini 737, I arrived in Port Moresby. Customs had the normal long line up and all went smoothly. As I entered the airport, I realised that my previous complaining about LAX and Sofia airports was unnecessary as this airport was the worst I had visited in my many years of travelling. Apart from being in a terrible state of disrepair, you gained immediately, that uncomfortable feeling of us and them, rich and poor, have and have not that pervades PNG. This feeling was heightened of course by the stories from Australian media about the bad things that happen in PNG.

Outside was a state of chaos and disorganisation . There were lots of nationals sitting on the ground and around the edges of the airport. The building is very old and tired and has no class or style to it and even though they work hard on keeping it clean, they are failing due to it's age.The canteen in the domestic terminal had a cage around it and you could only get in to the terminal buildings through security if you had a boarding pass.

After a small walk across to the domestic terminal and a wait for two hours in the terminal with hundreds of others, my connecting flight to Mt Hagen took off. It was my first flight on a Fokker 100 and I was surprised how quiet and smooth the flight was.
