Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, Papua New Guinea
Our day trip around Hagen took us to a village (Tapuka) where we did a jungle walk. We were supposed to have a mumu but this did not happen due to changes in plans. A mumu is a native meal where all the vegetables and meats are buried in a hole in the ground full of hot coals and covered in leaves to cook. The village experience was authentic with the local villagers following us up through a rainforest walk to a mountain stream. We got to talk to the villagers and their kids. We saw their fields and the extensive crops they grow.

We also drove out of town further towards the Tomba pass, but did not make it all the way there due to timing and then we came back to town to a very small mini zoo and orchid farm called Avi Cultural Centre which was an enterprise of some of the locals .

The most interesting part of the trip was just sitting on the bus and traveling and watching the activities on the side of the road. It was great to see all the activity and get used to PNG life from a safe distance.
