Casper took us on a tour up to the Nob Nob lookout in a 4WD. The road was very rough but when we reached the summit we had a great view of Madang and the islands and you could see Kar Kar sticking out from behind the clouds.
He also took us to Balek sulphur creek with turtles in it that was used in filming Robinson Crusoe with Pierce Brosnan
. It was also a site the Japanese hid in during ww2. Here we saw a bee hive swarming in the village which was interesting.
Casper took us to see some machine gun casements in a rainforest, but we moved out quickly when they told us they wanted some money as it was a restricted site. We went to see a crashed plane in the jungle from WW2 but Casper saw that it was different people stationed at the narrow road leading in so decided it was not safe to enter. He said he knew everyone that normally was located there and he did not know these guys so it was not safe to go up the long narrow muddy road as we could get robbed by Rascals. We also stopped at a roadside stall to buy some coconuts for juice, but after a while he asked us to move on quickly as he only knew one of the men and a whole group of people were congregating and he did not feel that we should stay any longer as it was inviting trouble.
We visited another resort called Jais Aben for lunch
. It had a picturesque location with beautiful Island Views. The food was average but the location magic.
We went to the Madang markets in the afternoon and Casper told us to leave things in the car as they would be safe as his wife would look after them. He was worried we would be pick pocketed in the markets. She rang him when we were in the markets and he ran off to chase someone who had broken into the car and stole Georg's camera bag. The rest of us were lucky we did not lose our bags as most of us had taken our money and cameras but left other things such as phones in the car. We drove around town looking for it but could not find them or anyone else willing to sell it back to us. It was interesting that Casper had out his batton on the seat in case he saw them.
We lodged a report at the police station which was a disgusting run down dirty building in town.
We later went to the supermarkets to find Georg some shoes as his had broken but this was not possible as they did not have his size in any store in Town. They only stocked sizes less than 11.
I bought a bilum at the markets for Shelby and for Michele.
