This was to be our last day with Rosemary, she was on
the same flight as Helen was a couple of weeks ago and was going to catch the
15:58 train, as did Helen.
We had a few things to do first though, the most
important being to return the car, which was due back at the main ferry
terminal by 09:30. It had been a good car and we / I was pleased that apart
from it being a bit grubby after the hard use it had suffered, it was undamaged
and there shouldn’t be an issue with insurance claims and so on. We got to the
terminal at 09:10 and dropped the keys off in the drop off box – there is no
Europcar office here. Having done that, we walked to the town train station, a
matter of some 600m away and there Rosemary bought her ticket, costing all of
12 zloty ie less than £3.00 for a journey of something like 70km!
As there wasn’t much else that was pressing and as it
was a fine day, we went back to the boat for a few hours’ relaxation and some
lunch and then it was time to go. We caught the 15:00 local ferry across the
canal which meant that we were in the station with the better part of an hour
to go prior to Rosemary’s train. I decided it would be a good idea to walk back
to the main ferry terminal to see if the car had been picked up and if it hadn’t
, I would photograph it all just in case it suffered some vandalism whilst
there.
However I needn’t have bothered as it had gone, and as I’ve not heard
anything from them at the time of writing this ( Monday at 17:15) presumably
all is well.
I got back to the station in time to say goodbye to
Rosemary and see her safely on her way. That must be something like the 20th
holiday we have had together and it’s nice that we still enjoy each other’s
company. Having said that, as I’ve said on numerous other occasions, it’s also
good to get back to just the two of us, especially when living in each other’s
pockets all the time like on the boat or in the confines of a car or small
apartment. It had been a good, a very good fortnight and we would recommend
Poland to anyone, it has more than enough to see and do in a 2 week holiday.
On the way back to the boat we detoured to Lidl and
bought some supplies as we intended heading back up to Rügen in Germany and hopefully spend some days on the anchor in
nice weather, that was the plan. Having done our shopping we still had a few
hundred zlotys left and as there was a bureau de change at the marina, we
changed them to euros. However, having done that we realised, when we were back
on board, that we had 90 left in small notes and coin – say £20.00. That was
worth a revisit to Lidl to spend the rest and I’m pleased to say that we have
some more bottles of Żubrówka Bison Grass vodka, at under £5.00 for 500ml it
was a no-brainer! (perhaps, come to think of it, that’s a dangerous thing to
say given alcohol’s known deleterious effects on cognisance!)
That evening we had a salad and chilled out catching
up with Julie’s soap, Holby City and had an early night, we were quite tired
after all the bustling of the last few days.
