Today was
to be a day of strongish winds, F6 or so with occasional black clouds scudding
by, sometimes with a bit of rain, especially during the morning but in between,
there was bright sunshine. However the strong wind kept us from feeling anything
other than cool, there was no way, other than inside the shelter of the cockpit
tent, to escape it. So that is what we did, pretty much – a day of reading and
chatting with Richard & Gill. They, brave souls, decided to have a swim
from the nearby beach during the afternoon and I have included a photo to prove
it. I say brave souls as the water temperature here is only 17°C, whereas a few
days ago, when we were probably away from the North Sea waters, it was 23.5°C
(and we didn’t swim then either!). I’m pretty sure that the salinity here is
similar, if not identical to the North Sea and its inhabitants are to be found
here, including lobsters, as we met a lobster fisherman yesterday whilst having
lunch.
That
evening it was our turn to cook and we used up our sausages, serving them with
Samsø new potatoes (Samsø is famous for them, bit like Jersey is), sweet corn,
leeks & carrots – not haute cuisine but tasty nevertheless.
