It rained
pretty hard overnight and indeed it was still raining by the time we got up,
necessitating donning full waterproofs (in my case, Julie is made of sterner
stuff) for our trip to the washrooms.
By the time we’d showered though, the
rain had more or less stopped but conditions remained damp and we had
occasional short showers over the morning. Not that interesting, I know but it
had relevance to our plan for the day which was to do our laundry, including
any residual guests’ stuff such as sleeping bags and so on. Normally we like to
do it in dry conditions, so that the clothes can be air dried and if we are in
a harbour with a free washing machine, so much the better. Here they are not
free but at least they have several and also they have different sizes, the
largest one being capable of taking 16kg loads. Moreover the two tumble dryers
are industrial sized ones, so they are quite efficient. We did two ordinary
loads of washing and placed the two sleeping bags into the big washer and we
dried everything – total bill just over £25.00 but at least everything was
done.
Richard
& Gill on Calypso texted us to say that they were on their way and had made
an early start and indeed they were with us by lunch time, having had a better
wind than predicted and were able to sail for some of the time. We suggested
that we would meet for tea and cakes and later dinner on board CW, when I
produced a lamb curry and we had papadums and pickles for starters. Tomorrow we
agreed we would head for Rudkøbing on the island of Langeland , about 33 miles
to the south. There is a very large bridge that connects Fyn to Denmark’s
principal island, Zealand and we have to go under it. No big deal as there is a
65m clearance in the main channel but in order to save about 6 miles, we intend
passing under one of the lower spans, which has a charted height of 18m. Now we
have an air draft of 17.5 metres so it is going to be tight, but that’s
tomorrow’s story…
