An even better day!

Klintholm Havn, Zealand, Denmark
As it's only 35 miles to Klintholm from Gedser and there was a decent breeze forecast, an early start was not required but having got up early the day before I was habituated, so I harried Julie out of bed at 07:00 so that we could get going. Yesterday I said that the marina was almost uninhabited but by the end of the day, several yachts had come in, including a Polish boat with 7 men, all of whom decided to go to use the limited facilities at the same time! There was no way I was prepared to wait my turn to shower (there were only 2 shower cubicles, do your own maths!) so I returned and tested CW’s shower, which worked well, leaving Julie to use the deserted female facilities. After a breakfast of a boiled egg & toast, we were off by 08:15, motoring past the ferry harbour and out to sea in the well -marked channel, turning the engine off at 09:15 and settling down to a broad reach with both sails filling nicely and with the sun promising to come out later and so it proved.

It was a classic sail, it would have been classicer (no such word, I know) if we’d had another few degrees, ten or so (!) but very pleasant all the same . We logged 6 and 7 nautical miles covered every hour, the sea was flatter so no queasiness and all in all, a lovely few hours and we were tied alongside in Klintholm by 14:00. This time we positioned ourselves such that the breeze was blowing us off the pontoon, easy enough to do given space but again, we had a tight (ish) space to get into and it took two attempts, but hey ho, no-one is perfect!

Odile arrived some time later, the breeze was now in the low 20’s (knots) and we were there to take warps and help her onto an adjacent pontoon, which earned us an intimate meeting with Mr Gordon later in the day, in Odile’s spacious main saloon.

There is not much to Klintholm Havn either – it does have a small Spar shop and a couple of restaurants but that’s about it. Neither does it have wifi (yet, it will later in the season, I am told) so it is not much of a place to get stuck in, which is why we were keen to get to Sweden on Wednesday, as big winds were being forecast for Thursday. Consequently, after another amiable and pleasant hour in the company of Odile’s owners and Mr Gordon (they’re not cheap like us!), the last one for some time as they plan to 'do’ the Göta Kanal from Gothenburg travelling eastwards, which meant that they would be heading northwards from Klintholm towards Copenhagen tomorrow, we had dinner and went to bed early, planning to be on our way at 06:00 the next morning.
