A Pretty Town

Trosa, Södermanland, Sweden
I didn't sleep that brilliantly, I don’t know why – damage to precious? It was a grey, cool day and not much going for it. Lotta was on the case, however. Sadly, she didn’t get very far with the credit card receipt as Sweden has similar data protection laws as the UK ie names are not provided by the bank. She had better luck with finding the owner by going down to the local chandler and boat repair yard, they were able to name him but said that he was a decent chap and the only explanation they could come up with for his behaviour was that he had been drinking and didn’t want to be breathalysed (here if you fail, you lose your car driving licence also).

We provided Lotta with our bank details and so on and she assured us that she would chase him down . This she did, we heard at the end of the day. The poor chap was in Crete on holiday, his boat had not been moved and it couldn’t have been him as the purchaser of fuel had bought more than his boat’s capacity! Connie, the plonker, had got the wrong boat! Unless Lotta is able to persuade the bank to provide a name and address then, he has got away with it and we are €200 worse off. What can I say, other than &%(*))!!!!

There was nothing else we could achieve in Oxelsund, so at 12:00 we were off, destination Trosa, 26 miles away. The weather was overcast still but later the sun came out and we had a pleasant mixture of sailing with some engine use in the SW later SE F3 wind, arriving in the busy (yes busy!) harbour at the mouth of the little river at 18:15. One interesting sight on the way was a military hovercraft going full tilt, quite fun and in fact, it was moored quite close to us, I discovered later.

When we were manoeuvering in, a British chap (by accent and later found to be the case) kindly took our lines. His name was Ian on a Bavaria 36 (Starburst) with his friend, Jilly. We invited them round for nightcaps and we spent a very pleasant couple of hours in their company, picking his brains in particular as he is a long-term hence expert, west coast of Sweden enthusiast. Whilst he liked what he’d seen of the east, he was very strongly of the opinion that the west was more scenic and interesting and it certainly makes us want to go there!
