The Real Place is Soviken, computer insists not!

Trävik, Stockholm, Sweden
Well, the forecast was correct. It was pretty windy, gusts of up to 26 knots from the SW and with it, spatters of rain and with more being threatened. We decided that we would wait until after lunch to see if there was any improvement – I was keen to leave as I saw little point in paying £20 or the equivalent for perching on Sweden' s longest pontoon ( we are told) with no facilities. So, after a consoling fried everything breakfast, we went on a mission, to replenish our depleted wine and beer stocks. The Systembolaget (the state liquor store) was in town, close to the supermarket, so that was where we went, after dropping the computer off in the harbour office to get them to charge it – and they charged for the privilege. More black marks for Nynäshamn marina!

Returning from our successful mission, we decided to call into the fishmonger / deli on the harbour side, who specialised in smoked produce and there we bought smoked prawns and two pieces of hot smoked salmon, one plain and one peppered, together with some ciabatta . The prawns, which were really very good, we had for lunch with the bread and the salmon will do for two more lovely lunches.

By the time lunch was over and done, the wind had settled to 20 knots but nothing else had changed, but the reduced wind was excuse enough for me to bully Julie into our leaving, which we did without mishap. Our route took us southwards and then westwards, heading back down the archipelago in the direction of Trosa. Even though we could have sailed, as the batteries hadn’t been recharged we opted to use the engine, as our destination was the anchorage called Soviken which was only 8 miles away and where we stopped at on June 19th – that seems a lifetime ago now. We arrived at 16:00 and anchored safely, albeit on the second attempt. It was still grey and dull and windy, quite depressing when we hear that it is hot and sunny back home.
