A Mini EU Meeting

Risö, Östergötland, Sweden
Our first chore on this bright, still, warm day was to get the washing done and this was done by 11:00. Julie, bless her, did all the chores, leaving me to do some blogging and to nurse my sore back, which has been playing me up for the best part of three weeks. Anyway, blog updated and clothes and boat clean, we were off by 11:30, destination an anchorage on the island of Risö, 25 miles away. We were hoping that once we were out of the several miles-long buoyed channel into Nyköping, we would be able to sail and in this we were correct, so by 14:15 we were sailing at around 5 knots in the SE F3 breeze.

Whilst we were en route, I decided to text Ed & Roos to thank them again for the money and the booklets and also to ascertain where they might be and to our delight, we learned that they were in fact in the same anchorage, so it was with a pleasurable anticipation that we approached Risö at 17:30, anchoring near them and all squared away by 17:45 and on board Spiriwit by 18:00 for drinks and a catch up chat – we don't hang around when socialising!

Ed & Roos were still sailing with their friends Dieter & Mattie Stok on their Trintella 42 called Coppelstock and it transpired that they were rock-huggers and their boat was moored on the opposite side of the bay . We had been invited to join them for after-dinner drinks, Ed & Roos were going over there for dinner but there wasn’t enough for an additional 2 latecomers, so it was agreed that Ed would come & fetch us at 20:15. We had a chicken curry on board whilst we waited for our 'taxi’ and once on board Coppelstock, we had a very pleasant couple of hours chatting, despite the mosquitos best efforts to spoil the fun! Dieter & Mattie are very experienced Baltic hands and it was nice to pick their brains, plus of course Ed & Roos, who had made the High Coast this year, which is now the year after next’s objective for us.
