We're not very good at Pub Quizes

We were now well into the Rally programme and today was a full day. It started with a short walk to the Merchant Sailors Training School where we were shown the facilities and given demonstrations on the safe way to handle flares of all sorts, which included the opportunity to have a go and my flare was a bright red hand-held one. Again it was a beautiful, warm day and the setting for the school was set off perfectly – I don't think I’d like to be a pupil practicing lifeboat drill in the winter there but today it would have been fun!

After this interesting interlude, we had a couple of hours before the main event of the day – a jubilee party, somewhat late but as many of us had been away for the real event it was a great excuse and an excellent idea of Janet’s . The boats had all been dressed with flags and bunting by the ton was hung around the place. Every boat had been asked to contribute something, ours was platefuls of ham sandwiches and some salsa and tortilla chips. One boat had made a superb, professional looking cake and there were many other fine examples of baking on display. In short, there was more than enough food and we had a splendid time, mixing and chatting. By 17:00 we had cleared everything away and then we had a little time to recuperate before the final event of the day, a pub quiz in the local restaurant. This again went well, some really clever questions were contrived by the formidable Safarovic couple – here is one, the answer will be in tomorrow’s blog :- 'Which capital city is an anagram for that country’s seventh largest city which itself used to be the capital?’ Good luck! Needless to say we didn’t win but we weren’t quite last……
