Jaipur and Amber

Jaipur, India
25th February - Left Rathambhore for Jaipur 'the pink city'. Saw lots of heavy loads en route including one lorry with the biggest grain sack in the world lurching over the side.We were glad to get past intact in the taxi. You'd have to see it to believe it! Chatted with some local school kids who all seem to collect coins. Seems to a lot of it going on! They're not collecting 20ps though only pound coins - it a good job we're not from Poland!

Today (26th Feb)we visited the Sheesh Mahal (palace of mirrors) in Amber to which we got an elephant ride up to the top . Also went to the Amber Fort with great views over the city. Had lunch in a posh restaurant which cost us nearly $4(pounds)- very expensive! Went to City Palace where the Royals of Rajasthan live. Great muesums and wonderful artwork. Saw a couple of transvestites in Saris (guide said they're 'Eunuchs').

Nice man in shop was trying to sell us Indian clothes (nothing new there!). He insisted Sue looked good in a pair of massive bloomers - she could easily have fitted in one leg!

Good job we're not here on holiday for a couple of weeks as we'd spend a fortune on all the amazing bargains around here!

Amber has been the most touristy area yet (apart from the Taj Mahal) and we were not for a change the only white people around!

Sitting out in the garden tonight enjoying a cool drink and temperature of about 22 celsius - very nice.

Sorry about the lack of photos at - we are taking plenty - just waiting for the right PC to come along to load them up!
