The Jeep is now finished, everything done on it
Been out in it several times now, it runs well, speedo still bounces around, but I zeroed it so all the mileage will be mine
We been to the fruit picking farm at Denham, it's not far, but ideal for a test run
Then to a garden centre
Okay, not all the work has been mine, it would have never happened without Adrian's help and advice, so I will be forever grateful to him
He found things I would have never found and done work I could have never done in a driveway
I have fitted new brake shoes, new drums, new brake cylinders, replaced the speedo and the fuel gauge (I got a genuine one instead of the repo that was in there) the speedo still bounces around a bit
The head lights are marked up with 1943 and 1944
A new winter kit, new canvas all round, new cushions and seats
I found some better seats, okay they were red, but a couple of can of spray paint done the job
Fitted a new vacuum unit for the windscreen, drivers side only, passenger is a new manual one
The radio has gone, it just took up room and would have never worked anyway
When the winter kit is on, it's quite warm inside
I have removed the numbers on the bonnet (they mean nothing now) I have replaced it with my service number (so it's more personal to me)
Put Anne's name on the windscreen
Added my regimental badge to the bonnet
Put steps on both sides to make it easier to get in and out of
Had to remove the shovel and axe for that, but easily put back
Most times I l will be travelling without the doors, can't really see the mirrors with them on
On the trailer I fitted a new canvas cover, sorted out the wiring, got the lenses replaced, the indicators/brake lights now work
Where ever I go I get lots of people taking pictures and waving, a bus load of school kids over took me, they were all waving
I do get a warm feeling when driving it, it's all mine, okay not all the work was mine, but I did some of the important bits
My first show I am taking it to is Harborough At War, I get free entry for displaying it, we might even stay overnight (camping of course)
I am expecting rivet counters to point out things that aren't right, I won't really care, it's my jeep
Then one of the biggest shows in the country, WAR and Peace, 3 days of showing it off (assuming it don't get cancelled)
I have joined a group, IMPS (Invicta Military Vehicle Preservation Society)
They even help with trips to France, Holland, War Graves
They organise trips and meet ups, people get to show off the vehicles and what they got
