It turns out my sister's Bauer clan has a niece/cousin who is one of those cute, young and single banking types living the glamorous ex-pat life in Hong Kong! Naturally since she lives here she vacations in this half of the world, so I have been patiently waiting for her to return from her week off in Melbourne, Australia.
Tonight is our night to dine together, and I will get to hear all about her exciting life. Allow me to introduce Michelle V - investment banker extraordinaire, who has made her home here for the last year. (Blurry photo courtesy of our nice waitress).
Michelle asked what I desired, and I told her I was really wanting some dim sum which this city is famous for. This is tricky it turns out because dim sum is a lunch item and many places don't serve it for dinner. But she phoned around and found that one of her favorite restaurants had dim sum on their dinner menu - And so we go there.
You can see the feast we shared below (with my commentary), and we had a really special evening getting to know each other (we both went to Indiana University!) We caught up on family connections, talked about Jaime's and Aaron's visit, I shared highlights of my time in Hong Kong, and I even encouraged her to try some Air BnB tours if she finds herself with spare time. I also learned a lot about living and working in Hong Kong, and developed a little big city lifestyle envy as we were finishing our meal together.
The time flew by, and when we bid each other Good Night, and Thanks for the Evening, I felt like I had made a new friend. Oh - and I even have some exotic and fragrant Chinese tea to bring back home.
I hope you all are enjoying your dinners with family and friends as well . . . Tomorrow is my last day here so I plan to go the the Peak and see the 360 view of Hong Kong.
