Surprise! I made a detour to Sydney, Australia

Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
I just want to say, I have really enjoyed my traveling adventures these past 5 weeks in 2018. I have seen a lot of new places, and have experienced a lot of new things. It has expanded my horizons of who we share life with on this planet, and reinforced that I knew we were very different, but that we also have the same human instincts of meeting and being hospitable to each other as we move through different landscapes.
But. I have decided I need a break from strangeness. And also, aloneness.
So - I have taken a western turn, and I flew from Danag, Vietnam through Bangkok to Sydney, Australia. I wanted to hear English again, spoken by people nearby. And I wanted to visit friends - people that I knew, and that could help me process this traveling experience and also keep me company as well.
So that puts me first, in Sydney Australia, where I have never been before but have wanted to visit. I stayed in an AirBnB here, with a Chilean couple who immigrated to Australia 35 years ago. Thank you, Ana and Sergio, for a wonderful visit.
And the best tourist activity I did in Sydney was to go on Virginia's Art in the Streets tour (that AirBnB offered), and together we had a remarkable Thursday. Virginia has worked in the arts community in Sydney for years, and is very knowledgeable about Sydney's history; the architecture of the city, and the various public art projects that exist all over. What started as a two hour tour ended up with us having tea, lunch, and then a drink together while we wandered all over downtown Sydney. Thank you, Virginia, for such a remarkable day of art history and friendship.
And today I leave Sydney to fly north to the Gold Coast, and visit my friend Rod Caldicott again. It will be nice to have a friend to visit. Hope you all are doing well! Love, Diane
