Towards Fort William

Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom
'O ye'll tak' the high road, and I'll tak' the low road, And I'll be in Scotland afore ye,
But me and my true love will never meet again, On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomond.'

It is late, 3pm, when we finally leave Glasgow and wend our way to Fort William

We travel for miles along the shores of Loch Lomond. While beautiful the adrenaline pumps! The road around the Loch is exceedingly narrow and it twists and turns and twists again. Ruts at the edge of the bitumen on the passenger side are vicious, deep and dangerous - no doubt gouged by the huge haulage trucks that also use these narrow roads. They travel at extraordinary speed - hair raising!

We move away from the Loch into mountainous country.

Stone walls edge the cliffs and ravines appear deep below. We pass magnificent balding mountains streaked with patches of snow. An aqueduct in the valley below. Mountains totally white with snow and draped in cloud.

It is breathtakingly beautiful and we are lost for words - we just smile and absorb it all.

'Wherever I wander, wherever I rove,
The hills of the Highlands for ever I love'
- Robert Burns

The lowering grey skies bring rain and it is dark as we drive into Fort William.
