Upon
arrival at Heathrow, I got a call from our Blackberry car driver to say that due to
snow in London earlier that morning, traffic was bedlam and he was running 30
minutes late. Not really a problem as we
still had to retrieve our bags and get through security. By the time we achieved that, he was just
about there, so we loaded our bags and we were off to our hotel – Apex Temple
Court.
This
was our first time staying in this location, we usually stay at the Park Plaza
Westminster Bridge but we felt that it was time for a change. We absolutely loved Temple Court. We had Club Lounge access with the room that
we had booked, so we were taken there and given a glass of wine until our room
was ready. Within about 15 minutes we
were taken to a room that was more like a suite, with a huge bathroom and
separate living area. It also had a
lovely view of parts of the river, the OXO Tower and the London Eye.

After
unpacking a few things and a quick shower we headed out to get our
bearings. We walked down Fleet Street,
past St. Paul’s, then crossed the Millennium Bridge and into the Tate Modern.
Now G
and I are really, really not modern art fans, so apologies but we skipped the
art entirely and headed straight to the viewing platform. It was dark by this stage so we had a lovely
view of the lights of London, particularly St. Pauls across the river. We left just as the Tate was closing and
walked back to the hotel for another glass of wine.
Jet lag was kicking in by then, so we simply walked a couple of doors away to the Tipperary, apparently the first Irish pub outside of Ireland, where we had a simple dinner of Bangers and Mash for me and Steak and Kidney Pie for G
