This
was to be our last full day in Edinburgh.
We
started out with a brief visit to the Scottish National Gallery, before walking
up to Calton Hill. While we would have
loved to have climbed Arthur’s Seat, we didn’t have the time and it was very
cold too.
We
enjoyed some spectacular views from Calton Hill as well as seeing the monuments
that dot the walk.
After
returning from Calton Hill, we walked the lower portion of the Royal Mile down
to the Palace of Holyrood, which is where the Queen stays when she visits
Edinburgh. We decided not to go inside
this time so went back up the Mile to the Whiski Bar where we finally got to
try Cullen Skink, a delicious smoked fish soup, for lunch.
The
rest of the afternoon was spent wandering the Mile, with a little bit of
shopping to purchase a genuine tartan collar and coat for our little West
Highland Terrier, followed by afternoon tea in the hotel.
Our final Edinburgh dinner was delicious – we ate at the Café Royal, a gastro pub, where G had a seafood platter and I had Scottish salmon with asparagus. We both had raspberry cranachan for dessert.
