Visiting the Castle District

Budapest, Hungary
Today was another huge day of walking, like all of our days on this trip.
We started our day with a walk across the Chain Bridge to S & Js hotel, the Hotel Victoria, which has fabulous view of the Parliament Building.
After meeting up with them, we all queued for the funicular up to Budapest Castle.  In hindsight the queue and cost were not worth it as we could have easily walked up, but it was still a new experience.
The next hour or so was spent wandering the castle district and taking yet more photos of the incredible views of Budapest from the other side of the river.  There wasn’t a huge amount to actually see in the castle itself, there were a couple of museums and galleries, but nothing that we were particularly interested in, so we restricted ourselves to view from the outside only.  We did manage to catch the Changing of the Guard though, not quite as impressive as the one at Buckingham Palace, but still interesting to watch.
After leaving the castle we spent some time wandering around the castle district, before stumbling upon a restaurant named Baltazar, which I had read about on Trip Advisor.  We decided to stop there for lunch which was very nice, and I got to enjoy one of the Hungarian dishes that I had wanted to try, Chicken Paprikash which was served with spaetzle.
Our next stop was at Hospital in the Rock which was very interesting indeed.  After our tour of this, where unfortunately no photographs were allowed, we caught the bus back down and across the river to the Marriott, where once again we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks in the lounge with its gorgeous views of the Chain Bridge and the Castle that we had just visited.
We again used Tram 2, our Budapest favourite, back along to the bridge, where we walked across by night before meeting S & J for our last dinner of the trip together.  We dined at a French restaurant on the Buda side of the river, so closer to their hotel, called Pavillon de Paris.
This was an extremely pretty restaurant with a lovely terrace area which would have been very nice in warmer weather.  We all enjoyed the food, and I at salmon on a bed of mash, followed by crème brulee with berries.
The day finished with our final walk across the beautiful Charles Bridge.
